Brett’s decision to attend medical school was born out of his 16-month treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which he underwent during his freshman and sophomore years. His experience as a patient inspired him to want to give back from the “other” side of medicine.
Dr. Cordes attended LSU for his undergraduate studies, where he graduated with a B.A. in History with Summa Cum Laude honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then went to LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, and was one of only 5 Honors Graduates, having completed a research project studying the effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen on acute cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was also elected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Dr. Cordes completed his internship in General Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He remained at Baylor, completing his training in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He was drawn to both research and teaching during this time, winning awards for each, including those in clinical and basic science research, as well as the Department of Otolaryngology Resident Teaching Award and the Baylor College of Medicine Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Cordes then pursued a career in private clinical practice within the Texas Medical Center, while serving as Assistant Clinical Professor for both Baylor and UT-Galveston Medical Schools.
Dr. Cordes treats a wide variety of conditions within all aspects of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has a particular interest in the medical and surgical treatment of adult and pediatric Allergy and Sinus Diseases.
Dr. Cordes enjoys vacationing with his wife, Katie, and their children, Kevin and Alyssa. In his personal time, he can be found exercising, watching or attending LSU sporting events, or working in his yard.
